If you are fond of the radio and you love kids, why don’t you combine both things becoming a volunteer at Radio Lollipop?
Radio Lollipop is a charity that started over forty years ago in Surrey and it has expanded since then all across the UK. There are now even radio stations in Australia, New Zealand and America.

Radio Lollipop provides fun, entertainment and music to the children in hospital wards. The volunteers go three times a week to the hospital where they have to do a variety of tasks like reading stories to the kids, playing board games with them, singing songs, etc.

In addition to this, the volunteers allow the kids in the hospital to call the Radio Lollipop’s radio station to request their favourite song, chat with the radio presenter or take part in the contest where they can win a prize.
Sometimes the volunteers provide a relief for the parents and carers of the children in the hospital, who need someone to talk to besides the people who work at the hospital.

I was lucky enough to be part of Radio Lollipop in London for over a year and a half. There are two radios of the kind in London, one at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the other at Evelina Children’s Hospital. Both of them host volunteer sessions three times a week – Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays. I used to go on Sundays from 3 to 5 in the afternoon and it always made my week by going to hospital and visit the children in the wards.

It is a very rewarding feeling to put a smile on those kids’ faces, plus you get to play lots of fun games with your fellow Lollipop volunteers!

Speaking about that, the people who work for Radio Lollipop are extremely nice and they will always make you feel welcome and part of a family that is constantly growing. I think that joining this community is a great experience, and it is also a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and get to hang out with them in their social events.

If you have always dreamt with doing something useful with your spare time, you should become a volunteer for Radio Lollipop. There are radio stations all across the country, and Southampton has its own Radio Lollipop at Southampton General Hospital, where they broadcast the show on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Please, find further information on Radio Lollipop on the link below and take this opportunity to join this incredible group of dedicated and positive people!
