About Radio Sonar

Radio Sonar studioRadio Sonar is the radio section of the Sonar Media, which combines the student radio, magazine, television and film societies of Southampton Solent University. Both Radio Sonar and the Sonar Media were set up over the summer period before the academic year of 09/10.

The overall aim of the Sonar Media was to create a brand out of the various societies by uniting them and giving them a base to grow from.

The long-term aim is to produce something that the students can utilize to help them learn new skills to carry over into any of a wide range of media careers. The group will also provide a range of areas and equipment that the students can book out to help with their course projects and any other outside projects they may have. There should be a number of students using the equipment, creating a community where the more advanced students can pass on their knowledge so that everybody helps everybody else.

Radio Sonar is based in the Student Union building and broadcasts over the Internet. It runs for 7 days of the week and allows the students of Southampton Solent University to produce and present their own shows. As the students of the university vary, so do the show types with the best of an eclectic range of music along with various talk shows.

As a completely student run organization, Radio Sonar has consistently been one of the most popular societies at the University and with the new organization under way, it should move on to bigger and better things.

The Radio Sonar Committee

Radio Sonar is run by a team of elected volunteer committee members - all of which are students at the university.

Award Winning Student Radio
